Constituents of Umuahia North have expressed deep appreciation to their representative in the state house of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, for his consistent and unwavering commitment to education and youth development through his sponsorship of the 3rd edition of the Ohuhu Spelling Bee Competition.
Organized by the Read to Lead Initiative in collaboration with Hon. Akaliro’s office, the much-anticipated third edition of the spelling bee is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the Umuawa-Alaocha Civic Hall, located in Umuawa-Alaocha, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.
The competition, which has grown in popularity and impact since its inception, aims to promote literacy, critical thinking, and academic excellence among primary and secondary school students across the Ohuhu clan. Through intense rounds of word challenges, students are given the opportunity to showcase their spelling proficiency and mental agility, all while building self-confidence and public speaking skills.
Hon. Akaliro’s role in sponsoring and supporting this educational initiative has earned him accolades from educators, parents, students, and community stakeholders alike.
According to Mrs. Chika Uche, an educator from Afugiri; “Hon. Akaliro is not just a lawmaker; he is a visionary leader who understands the power of education. By sponsoring the Ohuhu Spelling Bee, he is laying a strong foundation for academic excellence in our children’s lives.”
The Read to Lead Initiative, a youth-led educational advocacy group, described the partnership with Hon. Akaliro as a “model of progressive leadership.”
Speaking on behalf of the organization, Mr Tochukwu Eluwa, the Program convener, said, “This is more than a competition, it is an opportunity for the children of Ohuhu to believe in their potential. Hon. Akaliro’s sponsorship has ensured continuity, expansion, and greater participation. We are proud to work with him.”
For his part, Hon. Akaliro reaffirmed his commitment to promoting literacy and lifelong learning in his constituency.
“Education is the bedrock of societal transformation. The Spelling Bee is one of the many platforms we are using to inspire young minds and encourage intellectual excellence. I am proud of every child who participates,” he stated.
The upcoming edition is expected to draw participation from over 10 schools across Umuahia North, with pupils from upper primary and junior secondary categories competing for top prizes.
As anticipation builds for the event, the Ohuhu community continues to celebrate a representative whose focus on youth and education is reshaping the narrative of constituency service.
