Onyekwere Akym Uche, has joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating the triumphant Super Falcons of Nigeria, following their heroic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Super Falcons displayed extraordinary resilience and skill to overturn a two-goal deficit and defeat their opponents 3–2 in the final, clinching yet another WAFCON title and reinforcing their status as the queens of African football.
Reacting to the news of their remarkable victory on Sunday, Akym expressed heartfelt admiration for the team’s fighting spirit and unity.
“Congratulations our Nigerian Queens! You made us proud once again. From the first whistle to the final moments, you showed Africa what true champions look like,” Akym said.
He hailed the victory as a unifying and uplifting moment for the country, especially at a time when Nigerians are in need of hope and inspiration. “This is more than just a win on the football field. It’s a reminder that Nigeria is capable of greatness. Our Super Falcons have given the nation a reason to celebrate. They brought us together with their courage, heart, and brilliance,” Akym added.
The youth advocate emphasized the importance of supporting women in sports, noting that the Super Falcons’ success is proof of what Nigerian women can achieve when given the right platform and encouragement.
“Our female athletes deserve every bit of support, recognition, and investment. The Super Falcons have proven time and again that they are world-class. Let this victory serve as a wake-up call to invest more in women’s football and ensure gender equity in sports development,” he stated.
Akym also praised the individual brilliance of the players and the coaching crew, commending their discipline and strategy throughout the tournament.
“Every goal, every tackle, every save was a reflection of careful planning and deep national pride. I salute the coaching crew for steering the team with wisdom and vision,” he said.
In a special message to young Abians, Akym encouraged them to draw lessons from the team’s performance.
“Our young people should see this as an example that no matter the odds, success is possible with determination and teamwork. The Super Falcons never gave up, even when it seemed all hope was lost,” he noted.
He concluded by calling on government at all levels, private stakeholders, and sports agencies to sustain and deepen efforts toward developing grassroots sports across Nigeria.
“There are many hidden stars across our towns and villages waiting to be discovered. We must build systems that identify and support them, just as our Super Falcons once emerged from humble beginnings to conquer the continent,” Akym affirmed.
Onyekwere Akym however commended the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for his commitment to grassroots sports development, particularly the ongoing "Abia Soccer Festival," which he described as a breeding ground for future stars.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment and grassroots sports development in Abia North.
