Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, has presented a Motion of Urgent Public Importance on the menace of erosion ravaging parts of Umuahia North.
The motion, which was tabled on Tuesday during plenary, drew attention to the alarming rate at which erosion is destroying homes, farmlands, roads, and infrastructure in the constituency, posing a direct threat to the livelihood and safety of residents.
Speaking on the floor of the House, Hon. Akaliro stated,
“As the legislator representing Umuahia North, it is my duty and responsibility to identify and present crucial projects that will improve the lives of our people to the state government for urgent support and execution.”
He emphasized that the erosion menace had reached a critical level and required swift intervention from relevant government agencies.
“One of the most critical challenges facing our constituency is the menace of erosion, which continues to threaten the safety, homes, and farmlands of our people,” he lamented.
Hon. Akaliro expressed deep concern over the continued neglect of the erosion-prone areas in Umuahia North, warning that without immediate action, the damage could become irreversible.
“I have taken this issue up to the state level to ensure that immediate and effective measures are put in place to address it,” he assured.
Calling for a multi-sectoral response, the lawmaker urged the Abia State Government to mobilize the Ministry of Environment, ecological experts, and emergency response teams to assess and begin erosion control projects in the most affected communities.
He concluded his remarks with a heartfelt reassurance to his constituents, saying,
“I want to assure my constituents that I will not relent; I will continue to push and advocate tirelessly until concrete actions are taken to resolve this problem for the overall wellbeing, development, and safety of our communities.”
This marks another significant step in Hon. Akaliro’s proactive representation, as he continues to prioritize community safety, infrastructure development, and sustainable environmental management in Umuahia North.
