The Member representing Umuahia North (Ohuhu) State Constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, on Friday, 18th July 2025, visited the Umuagu community where he distributed palliative items to women in the community.
The event was aimed at recognizing the steadfast support of the women and reinforcing his commitment to their welfare and empowerment.
The palliative distribution, which included essential food items and household supplies, was accompanied by financial tokens to further assist the women in managing their economic needs amidst prevailing national challenges. The initiative was met with excitement, songs of gratitude, and open prayers from the women, who described the lawmaker as “a man of the people.”
Speaking at the event, Hon. Barr. Akaliro expressed deep appreciation to the women for their unwavering support and trust in his leadership. He emphasized the importance of women in nation-building and community development.
"I am here today not just as your representative, but as your son and brother," Akaliro said.
"The strength and unity of our women in Umuagu have been a pillar of my political journey. This gesture is a small token of my appreciation, and I want you to know that I will continue to work for your welfare, defend your interests, and stay close to the grassroots.”
The lawmaker reiterated his vision of inclusive representation that addresses both infrastructural and social needs of his constituents, promising that no community would be left behind in his development agenda.
"This is just the beginning. As long as I am in office, your voices will be heard and your needs prioritized. Women are the heart of every community, and when we empower women, we uplift the entire society," he added.
In response, the women of Umuagu, visibly touched by the gesture, sang traditional songs of praise and offered prayers for Hon. Akaliro’s continued success and protection. Community leader Mrs. Ngozi Nwachukwu, speaking on behalf of the women, commended the lawmaker’s humility and responsiveness.
"We are truly grateful to Hon. Akaliro for remembering us. Many politicians disappear after elections, but he has continued to show us love and support. We pray that God continues to bless him and use him mightily for the good of Umuahia North," she said.
The visit concluded with a renewed bond between the lawmaker and the women of Umuagu, strengthening the foundation for community-driven leadership and setting a tone of compassion and inclusion in his legislative service.
