Abia State, July 11, 2025 –

Hon. Onyekwere Akym Uche (OAU) has called on opposition parties and critics of Gov. Alex Otti to place the interest of the state above partisan politics by supporting ongoing developmental efforts rather than distracting the administration.

Speaking on friday, Akym emphasized that governance should not be politicized to the detriment of the people. He said that while constructive criticism is a vital part of democracy, unnecessary distractions and politically motivated attacks only derail progress.

This is not the time to pull down the house because you’re not the one holding the hammer,” Akym declared. “We all campaigned, we had our visions, but the people of Abia made their choice. Now is the time to build, not to break.

OAU, a former governorship hopeful acknowledged that although he had personal aspirations for the development of Abia State, he sees in Gov Otti a genuine effort to actualize many of the reforms he had envisioned.

Dr Alex Otti is already doing much of what I hoped to do; reforming infrastructure, promoting transparency, and restoring public confidence in governance,” Onyekwere Akym stated. “It would be hypocritical of me to wish him failure simply because I wasn’t the one elected. Our people deserve good governance, regardless of who delivers it.”

He urged political leaders, especially from the opposition, to demonstrate maturity and statesmanship by providing support where needed and offering solutions rather than attacks.

We must understand that governance is not a one-man show. If there are gaps, we should help to fill them, not widen them. The state belongs to all of us,” Akym said.

Onyekwere Akym Uche also addressed recent criticisms targeting Gov. Alex Otti’s economic policies and civil service reforms. He advised critics to evaluate policies based on their outcomes and not party lines.

What matters is whether lives are being improved, roads are being fixed, hospitals are working, and civil servants are being treated with dignity. If those things are happening, then we should applaud them, no matter our political leanings,” he added.

He concluded by calling for unity across all political divides to ensure sustainable development in Abia State.

We cannot afford another season of bickering and sabotage. Let’s work with Gov. Alex Otti to move Abia forward. Our people are watching, and history will not be kind to those who stood in the way of progress,” he warned.
