Obi of Onitsha, 13 profs become Fellows of Nigerian Academy of Letters

Obi of Onitsha

The Nigerian Academy of Letters has elected 13 professors and conferred Honorary Fellowships on three Nigerians, including the Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Achebe, and the Editor of Saturday Tribune, Dr Lasisi Olagunju.

Among those elected as Regular and Overseas Fellows of the Academy are Prof Ebunoluwa Oduwole and Prof Temisanren Ebijuwa in Classical Studies, Philosophy and Religions.

Also elected are Prof Emeritus, Alkasum Abba, in Historical Studies; and Profs Gbemisola Adeoti, Aderemi Raji-Oyelade, and Victor Ariole in Literary Studies.

In the category of Cultural Studies, Creative Writing, Theatre, Visual and Performing Arts, Profs Mohammed Umar-Buratai, Ameh Akoh, and Charles Nwadigwe were elected. 

Others include Prof Umaru Pate in Communication and Media Studies, and Profs Gideon Omachonu and Obiajulu Emejulu in Linguistics.

Prof Akinwumi Ogundiran was elected as an Overseas Fellow in Historical Studies.
