The Igbo apex social-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has unveiled its 2025 Constitution Review Committee.
The 18-man committee, according to the National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Ezechi Chukwu, on Monday, is chaired by Anthony Idigbe (SAN), accompanied by Professor Chinwe Obaji, Professor Fabian Onah, Professor Nnamani Ogbu, Gloria Okudo AIG (retd), and Hery Akunebu (SAN).
Other members of the Committee include Dili Biosah, Anozie Obi Mni, Ray Nkemdirim, C.J. Okori-Akirika, Dr. Dozie Nwosu, Dr. Boniface Chima, David Nwachukwu, Mr. Calistus Ekenze, Ndubuisi Agumagu, Dr. John Okolie, Okeagu Ogadah, and Chizoba Iheka.
Addressing the committee shortly after its inauguration, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General, Senator Azuta Mbata, disclosed the importance of an effective constitution as a necessary guide for optimal administration of the Igbo body.
He said the Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership looked forward to a strengthened constitution to enhance transparency, credibility, trust, strong grassroots/membership participation, unity, and the general well-being of Ndigbo, irrespective of members’ location.
“We look forward to seeing a strengthened constitution that will enhance transparency, credibility, trust, strong grassroots membership participation, unity, and general well-being of Ndigbo, irrespective of their location,” Mbata said.
The PG disclosed that the committee has a one-month duration to submit its interim report before its formal presentation to the Imeobi.
In his response, the chairman of the 2025 Constitution Review Committee, Idigbe, thanked Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the president general in particular for deeming his team worthy of what he termed as an onerous task.
He assured the president-general that his team would do its best and give Ohanaeze the constitution it deserves.
Idigbe said, “We thank the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide for believing in us and finding us worthy for this onerous task. I assure you that we will give it our best and report to the house soonest.”
