Nigerian boxing sensation Elizabeth Oshoba has issued a confident statement ahead of her featherweight bout against American Melissa Parker.
The Ogun State-born boxer has said she’s more prepared than ever for the August 22 showdown in Orlando, Florida.
The undefeated WBC Silver and IBO International Featherweight champion, who boasts a perfect 9-0 record with five knockouts, will face Parker (6-3-1, 2KOs) in what promises to be a crucial step in her quest for world title unification.
Every challenge is a step forward, and I’m ready to show what I’ve been building.”
The 25-year-old Nigerian’s bullish attitude comes on the back of a significant career development, having recently signed a promotional deal with Most Valuable Promotions, the management company owned by YouTube celebrity turned boxer Jake Paul.
The promotional deal represents a major breakthrough for the Nigerian pugilist, who made history in 2024 when she became the first female Nigerian boxer to win a world title. She is currently ranked 10th in the World Boxing Association featherweight division and fourth in the super lightweight category.
Oshoba recently extended her unbeaten professional record with a dominant points victory over Czech fighter Lenka Volejnikova at York Hall in London, a performance that further solidified her reputation as one of boxing’s rising stars.
Since turning professional, Oshoba has systematically collected titles, securing the IBO female super-featherweight championship and the WBC silver featherweight title. The latter came via a spectacular 10th-round knockout of Italy’s Michela Braga at Copenhagen’s Royal Arena, a victory that announced her arrival as a genuine world-level contender.
Parker, meanwhile, presents a seasoned challenge for the Nigerian champion. The American fighter’s record of six wins, three losses, and one draw, with two knockouts, suggests a durable opponent who will test Oshoba’s credentials at a crucial juncture in her career.
The Orlando bout will serve as an important measuring stick for Oshoba’s world title ambitions. A convincing victory would further enhance her growing reputation and potentially position her for bigger fights against more recognised names in the featherweight division.
