Teenager found dead after heavy rainfall in Gombe

The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the death of a teenage boy who was found lifeless in a gully at Hayin Kwarin Misau Quarters following heavy rainfall in the early hours of Monday.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the distress call was received at about 6:30 am by the Officer-in-Charge of Hayin Kwari, Misau outstation, alerting authorities to the discovery of the boy’s body in a gully erosion site.

Abdullahi said, “Our officers responded immediately and visited the scene. The preliminary assessment showed no signs of violence or injury on the deceased.

“We suspect he may have drowned due to the heavy downpour recorded the previous night.”

The PPRO on Tuesday disclosed that the boy, believed to be around 15 years old, had no means of identification on him at the time of discovery, adding, “His remains were evacuated to the Gombe Specialist Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.”

While disclosing that photographs of the scene were taken by detectives who visited the area, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing, he stated, “We are doing everything possible to identify the deceased and trace his relatives.”

He called on residents to oblige the command with useful information in order to reunite the deceased with his family, saying, “We urge members of the public who may have any useful information to kindly come forward or report to the nearest police station.”
