The Yobe State Government has approved over N40 billion for key capital projects across the state, according to Commissioner for Information, Home Affairs, and Culture, Abdullahi Bego.
The approval was announced after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Mai Buni on Wednesday in Damaturu.
The commissioner said the Council approved N1.7 billion for the construction of office complexes to accommodate five state government agencies, stating, “Additionally, N962.65 million was approved for the construction of a dedicated office building for the Yobe Investment Company Ltd.”
He continued, “The government also ratified approvals for the development of modern markets across various local government areas, including – N2.7 billion for the Machina Modern Market, N3 billion for the Geidam Modern Market, and N3.9 billion for the completion of the Potiskum Modern Market.”
To boost agricultural productivity, the council approved, he said, N3.8 billion for the procurement of agricultural inputs for dry season farming, N480 million for the purchase of 490 solar-powered water pumps, N1.3 billion for the purchase of 1,412 solar-powered water pumps, and N5.3 billion for the procurement of NPK 20:10:10 fertilisers for the 2025 farming season.
On healthcare, the council reaffirmed the government’s commitment to healthcare delivery by approving N1.4 billion for construction works in selected health facilities and training institutions, N1.23 billion for the procurement of medical and laboratory equipment for secondary and tertiary healthcare facilities, and the absorption of 110 midwives, 54 community health extension workers, and 258 community-based health workers.
