The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has applauded Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for his outstanding achievements across key sectors, describing him as “a governor with results, not excuses.”
Hon. Aguocha made the commendation following the latest SBM Health Preparedness Index Report (2025), which ranked Abia State as the most prepared state in Nigeria for health emergencies. According to the report, Abia scored 26.85 points, the highest in the country, a performance driven by the state’s record health spending per person of ₦22,926, a 14.8% budget allocation to healthcare, and one of Nigeria’s highest Human Development Index (HDI) scores at 0.674.
Speaking, Hon. Aguocha said the recognition was proof that Gov Otti’s administration has restored efficiency, transparency, and discipline in governance.
“Gov Alex Otti has changed the narrative of leadership in Abia. He came with a clear vision to rebuild our state, and today, the results are visible,” Aguocha said.
“Abia now leads the nation in health preparedness, environmental reform, and human development. This is what good governance looks like, practical impact in the lives of ordinary people.”
Aguocha noted that the Otti administration’s recent approval for the recruitment of 33 new medical consultants was another testament to its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and expanding access to quality medical services across the state.
According to Aguocha, “This is proactive leadership, one that values human lives above political calculations.”
The lawmaker also praised the government’s ongoing environmental and infrastructural projects, including the approval for the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) to deploy 100 new waste bins across the state and the 48 direct labour road maintenance projects being executed by the Ministry of Works.
“What we are seeing in Abia today is a government that works, one that plans, executes, and delivers,” he said. “From the roads in our local communities to waste management in our cities, Dr Alex Otti has demonstrated that leadership is about results, not rhetoric.”
Hon. Aguocha further described the governor’s policies as aligned with his own legislative vision for inclusive development, sustainable infrastructure, and citizen welfare. He stated that the current administration has rekindled hope in governance and restored the pride of Ndi Abia.
“For years, our people prayed for a government that listens, acts, and delivers, and today, we have that in Gov Alex Otti,” Aguocha added.
“His performance has raised the bar for leadership in Abia and beyond. We now have a template for progress that others can learn from.”
The federal lawmaker urged citizens to continue supporting the Otti administration to sustain the ongoing reforms, emphasizing that unity and cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government are vital for continued growth.
“Abia’s success is our collective achievement,” he concluded. “When the government leads with integrity and purpose, and the people give their support, progress becomes inevitable. Governor Otti has indeed proven to be a governor with results.”
With Abia topping national indices in healthcare, environmental management, and human development, stakeholders agree that the state is fast becoming a benchmark for effective governance in Nigeria.
