The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has raised serious concern over the escalating wave of insecurity and violence across Nigeria.
In a statement issued to reporters on Monday, Aguocha described the past ten days as marked by unprecedented negative news that signal a troubling drift toward societal disorder.
Speaking on the matter, Aguocha warned that the country is heading into avoidable chaos due to widespread lawlessness, insecurity, and the steady erosion of key institutions.
“Each day confronts us with a new tragedy and a painful reminder that our beloved nation is drifting amid a clear absence of competent, compassionate, responsive, and responsible leadership in various sectors,” he said.
The lawmaker cited a series of violent incidents that have rocked the country, including the killing of a Brigadier General, the abduction of 64 civilians in Zamfara, and the kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State. He also highlighted the attack on worshippers in Kwara and the abduction of over 300 schoolchildren and teachers in Niger State, noting that these events reflect a growing pattern of insecurity that cannot be ignored.
Aguocha further expressed deep concern over the latest attacks in Borno State, where female farmers were targeted.
“The other day, 13 female farmers were abducted in Askira-Uba Local Government Area by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists. Such incidents are not isolated; they are symptomatic of a nation in crisis,” he stated.
The legislator appealed to the federal government to act decisively in addressing the security challenges facing Nigerians.
“The Nigerian people deserve leadership that protects lives and ensures the safety of its citizens. We cannot continue to witness innocent lives being destroyed with impunity,” Aguocha added.
He also called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and united in the face of insecurity.
“While government must take the lead in restoring peace, communities also have a role in safeguarding their neighborhoods. Together, we can curb the menace of violence and abduction,” he said.
Aguocha concluded by urging immediate reforms in security and governance structures.
“We must collectively demand accountability, efficient security operations, and proactive measures that will restore confidence in our institutions. The time to act is now,” he emphasized.
The recent surge in kidnappings, targeted attacks, and institutional failures has intensified national anxiety, and Aguocha’s statement serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for comprehensive and coordinated action to protect Nigerians.
