Former Abia State governorship candidate and founder of the OAU Foundation, Hon Onyekwere Akym Uche (OAU), has applauded Gov Alex Otti’s 2026 budget proposal, describing it as “a structured, people-centric roadmap designed to accelerate Abia’s recovery and long-term prosperity.”

In a statement issued on Wednesday, OAU said the budget reflects a rare blend of fiscal discipline, human development priorities, and purposeful governance, noting that Abia is finally experiencing an administration where planning aligns with real needs and measurable outcomes.

He praised the governor for maintaining a strong capital expenditure direction, insisting that such commitment is essential for rebuilding critical infrastructure, expanding economic opportunities, and addressing longstanding governance gaps.

“What Dr Alex Otti has presented is not just a budget but a strategic blueprint for rebuilding Abia on solid foundations,” OAU said.

“The structure of the 2026 budget tells you it was crafted with intention, vision and empathy for the people. It prioritizes real development instead of political tokenism, and that is exactly the kind of thinking Abia needs at this stage.”

According to him, the allocation pattern reflects a government that understands the urgency of investing in roads, healthcare, education, and the productive sectors of the economy to stimulate growth and reduce poverty.

OAU further stressed that the budget’s transparency and alignment with global best practices demonstrate the governor’s commitment to restoring public confidence in the use of state resources.

“One thing that stands out in this budget is the clarity of purpose,” he said. “You can see where every major kobo is going, and you can see how each sectoral allocation connects to economic recovery, job creation and human capital development. This level of transparency is what we have been advocating for over the years.”

He noted that for the first time in many years, Abians can look at a state budget and see a coherent plan that places citizens at the centre of government priorities.

Akym also commended the administration for engaging in public consultations during the budget preparation process, describing it as a commendable practice that strengthens democratic accountability.

“The people-first approach is evident,” he added. “When a government listens, consults and incorporates the voices of the citizens into its spending plan, it shows seriousness and respect for democratic norms. This is the kind of leadership Abia deserves.”

While urging full and faithful implementation of the budget, the former governorship candidate assured that he and the OAU Foundation will continue supporting initiatives that uplift communities, expand access to opportunities and promote transparent governance.

He encouraged Abians to remain hopeful and engaged, insisting that sustained collaboration between government, institutions and citizens is crucial for achieving the desired transformation.

“This is a defining moment for Abia,” OAU said. “If the government maintains this trajectory of structured planning, transparency and people-focused development, Abia will rise stronger than ever.”

The statement by OAU adds to the growing endorsements from stakeholders who have commended Gov Otti for presenting what many describe as one of the most comprehensive and development-focused budgets in the state’s recent history.
