The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ini Emomobong, has assured stakeholders that the party’s national secretariat—currently sealed by the Nigeria Police Force—will reopen for normal operations in the coming weeks.
Wadata Plaza, which houses the PDP’s national headquarters, was sealed after clashes between two rival blocs, each claiming authentic leadership of the party.
Supporters of both sides had attempted to forcefully take control of the complex. Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde led the Tanimu Turaki bloc, while the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, backed his loyalists led by the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
Both camps have since resorted to holding parallel meetings at alternative locations, including the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro and Anyanwu’s private office in Wuye.
Steps have been taken to ensure our party secretariat is open for the business of party administration. These steps are not meant for the media, but we want to assure Nigerians that the PDP is one and very soon, we’ll be back at the secretariat,” he said.
However, a member of the Wike camp, Umar Bature—recently expelled from the party—dismissed talk of an imminent reopening. Bature, who was the National Organising Secretary until his expulsion, said he was unaware of any such efforts.
