Umuahia North Rep, Anderson Akaliro, Stresses Need for Stronger Intelligence Sharing to Tackle Crime

Abia |December 2, 2025 —

The Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, has called for a more robust and coordinated approach to tackling crime in the state, emphasizing the critical role of intelligence sharing among security agencies.

Speaking in Umuahia on Tuesday, Hon. Akaliro noted that the rising incidence of criminal activities, including armed robbery, kidnapping, and other security threats, demands more than isolated actions by individual security institutions.

He urged law enforcement agencies, intelligence services, and community stakeholders to work together to prevent crime before it occurs.

No single agency can claim to have all the answers,” Akaliro said.

The security challenges we face are complex and evolving. What we need is a system where intelligence is shared promptly, where agencies coordinate their responses, and where communities are actively involved in reporting suspicious activities.”

He further stressed that proactive collaboration could significantly reduce crime rates and enhance public confidence in law enforcement.

When intelligence flows freely between the police, the military, the DSS, and community vigilante groups, we create a network that is much harder for criminals to penetrate. This is the path to a safer Umuahia North and a safer Abia State,” Akaliro added.

The legal luminary also appealed to citizens to complement security efforts by remaining vigilant and supportive of ongoing initiatives.

Our people are an integral part of the security architecture,” he said. “Reporting suspicious activities, cooperating with security personnel, and staying alert are practical ways our communities can help protect themselves.”

Reiterating his commitment to the safety and well-being of his constituents, Akaliro promised to continue engaging with security agencies at state level to strengthen intelligence frameworks and ensure rapid response mechanisms are in place.

The goal is simple,” he concluded. “A society where our citizens can live, work, and move freely without fear. Stronger intelligence sharing, coupled with active community participation, is how we will achieve this.”

With the Yuletide period approaching, Akaliro emphasized that now is the critical time to reinforce these collaborative measures, ensuring that residents can celebrate the festive season in peace and security.
