Igbo World Union President Advocates For Igbo Linguistics And Cultural Education In Schools


In a significant move to promote cultural heritage, His Imperial Majesty Sir Mishak Nnanta, President Igbo World Union (IWU), Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum has called for the inclusion of linguistics and cultural education in schools to preserve the rich heritage of the Igbo people.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, Sir Mishak Nnanta emphasized the importance of teaching Igbo language, history and culture in schools. 
"Our children must know who they are, where they come from, and the values that make us Igbo" he said. 

He decried the decline of Igbo language and cultural practices among young people, attributing it to the lack of emphasis on cultural education in schools. "We are losing our identity, and it's our responsibility to preserve it for future generations" the Monarch Stated. 
Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum also pointed out the importance of projecting and preserving Igbo culture and language in the educational curriculum. 

He further stated that there's need to incorporate traditional Igbo music, dance and folklore into school programs to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the rich cultural heritage among young Nigerians.
Our people should prioritize cultural and linguistic education. "It's not enough to teach only Western education; we must also teach our children about our own culture and language" he concluded. 

In response, Dr. Yusuf Sununu expressed a strong commitment to collaborate with the Igbo World Union. 
He assured that the ministry would work towards incorporating the Igbo language more prominently in schools, fostering a greater appreciation and understanding of the rich cultural heritage among students.
This collaboration aims to strengthen cultural identity, promote diversity, and ensure that future generations remain connected to their roots."

His Imperial Majesty opined that this move is a step in the right direction and it is a way to revitalize the Igbo language and cultural heritage.
