Hon. Anderson Akaliro Aligns with Federal Lawmakers to Promote Peace, Inclusivity in Southeast

Hon. Barr Anderson Akaliro, member representing Umuahia North State Constituency and a legal expert, has expressed his support for the recent appeal by 50 federal lawmakers to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a statement made available to newsmen, Barr Anderson Akaliro stressed the necessity of a political solution to Kanu's detention, suggesting that his release could significantly aid in restoring peace in the Southeast region.

"The ongoing detention of Nnamdi Kanu has only worsened the already tense situation in the Southeast," Hon. Akaliro remarked.
"Releasing him would be a prudent move, helping to soothe tensions, foster peace, and create a favorable environment for constructive dialogue."

Hon. Akaliro's support aligns with his consistent advocacy for peaceful resolutions to the Southeast's issues. He has continually emphasized the importance of dialogue, understanding, and inclusivity in addressing the region's challenges.

The federal lawmakers' appeal, spearheaded by Hon. Obi Aguocha, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere and Hon. Zakari Nyampa, calls for the President to use Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution and Section 107(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, to facilitate Kanu's release.

Hon. Akaliro's support underscores a growing consensus among political leaders that a new approach is necessary to address the grievances in the Southeast. His support also highlights the need for collaboration and unity among stakeholders to promote peace and development in the region.

As the Southeast grapples with significant challenges like security breakdowns, economic downturns, family displacements, and business closures, Hon. Akaliro's call for Kanu's release and a peaceful resolution resonates widely. With many urging the President to respond positively and initiate a presidential peace initiative to tackle the region's issues.
