IWU President, Sir Mishak Nnanta Calls For Equal Minimum Wage For All Public Officials

In a bold move, the Igbo World Union President, His Imperial Majesty Amb. Sir Mishak Nnanta, (KJW), Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum, has urged that all public officials, including Senators, National Assembly members and governors, should receive the same N62,000 minimum wage as ordinary citizens.

This statement comes in response to the Federal Government's proposal following the recent labour strike.

In an interview, Nnanta emphasized that all civil servants deserve equal pay, regardless of position.
He warned that the current disparity could lead to rebellion among the masses, who are struggling to survive amidst high inflation.

Gburugburu questioned the justification for lavish allowances for public officials, such as sitting allowances, wardrobe allowances, and vehicle allowances, while teachers, nurses, and doctors are paid meager salaries.
He argued that these allowances should instead go to the poor masses who need them most.

In his words, "The same way the federal government has implemented the N62,000 minimum wage for civil servants, so should it be for all public officials, including National Assembly Members and Governors.
They are all civil servants, or are the others slaves?”

Sir Nnanta criticized the current system where government officials accumulate large sums for various allowances, while essential workers like teachers, nurses, and doctors receive much less.
He emphasized the need for fairness, pointing out that civil servants work tirelessly from Monday to Saturday for minimal pay, all while facing high inflation.

His Imperial Majesty's call for equal pay has sparked a national conversation on wage equality and the need to address the income gap between public officials and the general population.
His statement has resonated with many Nigerians who feel that the current system perpetuates inequality and disparity.
As the debate rages on, one thing is clear: the issue of fair compensation for all public officials has taken center stage, and the nation waits with bated breath to see how this plays out.
