British Election: Nigeria's Democracy Can Improve - Igbo World Union (IWU)

The Igbo World Union (IWU) has called for reforms in Nigeria's electoral system, drawing inspiration from the recent British election.

In a statement made available to newsmen today, the IWU praised the transparency and efficiency of the British electoral process and urged Nigeria to adopt similar measures to strengthen its democracy.

According to the IWU President, His Imperial Majesty, Amb. Sir Mishak Nnanta (KJW), Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum,
"The British election has shown us that a free and fair election is possible. We urge the Nigerian government to take a cue from the UK and implement reforms that will ensure the integrity of our electoral process."

The IWU specifically advocated for the adoption of electronic voting, robust voter registration, and a credible independent electoral commission. They also called for measures to address voter apathy and ensure the representation of marginalized groups.

Nigeria's electoral system has faced criticism in recent years, with allegations of fraud and irregularities marring past elections. The IWU's call for reform has been echoed by other civil society organizations and opposition parties.

Furthermore, His Imperial Majesty Categorically stated, "The British election has demonstrated a high level of transparency and accountability, which is lacking in our own electoral process. We need to adopt a similar approach to ensure that our elections are free, fair, and credible."

"The electronic voting system used in the British election is a game-changer," Sir Nnanta continued. "It eliminates the possibility of rigging and ensures that every vote counts. We need to embrace technology to improve our electoral process."

The IWU's advocacy has been hailed as a positive step towards strengthening Nigeria's democracy. And as the country approaches its next general election in 2027, the call for electoral reform is gaining momentum.

"We urge the Nigerian government to take our proposals seriously and work towards implementing them," Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum concluded. "We believe that with the right reforms, Nigeria can have a credible and transparent electoral process that will be a model for other African countries to follow."
