Hon Emeka Tommy Obioma Engages Umuobia Estate Leaders, Moves to Address Road, Power, and Waste Challenges

The Executive Members of Umuobia Estate, Umuobia Olokoro, in Umuahia South Local Government Area, on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Emeka Obioma, to present their community’s development concerns.
 
The delegation, led by Hon. Peter Donald, was warmly received by Hon. Obioma in his office. The meeting began with brief introductions and an opening remark by Hon. Valentine Egeonu, who commended the Abia State Government for its credible leadership and people-oriented initiatives aimed at transforming communities across the state.
 
In their presentation, the estate executives highlighted several challenges facing residents, including the deplorable state of the access road, inadequate electricity supply due to lack of transformers, irregular ASEPA waste disposal services, and security lapses within the area. They also requested the establishment of a polling unit within the estate to enhance electoral participation.
 

Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Peter Donald emphasized the urgency of rehabilitating the estate’s access road, noting that it had deteriorated significantly following erosion control works carried out by the Ministry of Environment. He also appealed for prompt intervention in the area of waste management, urging ASEPA to resume regular refuse evacuation and clear the overfilled dumpsite.
 
Responding, Hon. Emeka Obioma expressed appreciation to the estate executives for their visit and for bringing their concerns directly to him. He assured them that his office was already taking steps to ensure the community’s needs were addressed. 
“I want to thank the Umuobia Estate leadership for their commitment to community development,” he said
“I am glad you came to share your challenges with me directly, and I assure you that your concerns are receiving serious attention.”
 
Obioma disclosed that the road project linking Umuobia Estate had reached the mobilization stage, adding that the contractor would soon commence work. 
“I am pleased to inform you that the road has been captured in our constituency intervention projects. Mobilization has been approved, and work will begin soon,” he stated. 
On electricity, new transformers have been procured and will be distributed before the end of the year to improve power supply across Umuahia South.”
 
On security, the Chief Whip assured that proactive measures were being taken in collaboration with the Abia State Homeland Security Agency.

Security is a priority for us,” he said. “I have already linked your estate executives with officials of the Abia State Homeland Security Agency for closer cooperation. Together, we will ensure a safer environment for everyone.”
 
Addressing the issue of waste management, Hon. Obioma noted that he had engaged ASEPA management and received assurances of prompt inclusion of Umuobia Estate in their regular operational schedule. 
The waste management issue is being handled,” he affirmed. 
ASEPA has given their word that Umuobia Estate will be added to their routine evacuation plan for consistent and efficient service delivery.
 
Responding to the estate’s request for a polling unit, the lawmaker assured that he would engage with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure its establishment before the next general elections. 
Participation in the democratic process begins with accessibility,” Obioma noted. “I will reach out to INEC so that Umuobia Estate can have its own polling unit before the next elections.”
 
On behalf of the visiting delegation, Rotarian Charles Onyemere expressed appreciation to Hon. Obioma for his warm reception, hospitality, and responsiveness. 
He commended the lawmaker for his continued dedication to addressing the needs of Umuahia South residents and strengthening the link between government and the people.
