Former Abia Assembly Speaker, Engr. Chinedum Orji, Commends President Tinubu for Inclusive Governance

The former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Engr. Chinedum Orji has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts towards ensuring inclusive governance across Nigeria.
Orji expressed his appreciation for the President’s commitment to upholding the Federal Character Principle, which ensures fair representation for all segments of the Nigerian society in the governance structure.

Engr. Orji, who served as Speaker from 2019 to 2023 and is regarded as a prominent political figure in Abia State, noted that President Tinubu’s administration has demonstrated a clear intention to unify Nigeria through equitable appointments. According to him, the Federal Character Principle, enshrined in the 1999 Constitution, is vital to national cohesion, particularly in a country as diverse as Nigeria. He commended Tinubu for appointing individuals from various regions, ethnic groups, and religious backgrounds to key government positions, thereby fostering unity and inclusion.

"This is the kind of leadership Nigeria needs at a time like this," Orji said. "By appointing qualified Nigerians from different parts of the country, President Tinubu has demonstrated his commitment to inclusive governance and a balanced representation of all sections of the country. This is crucial for national unity, peace, and development."

Orji also emphasized the importance of fair representation in government, which not only reflects the nation's diversity but also ensures that every region feels a sense of belonging in the administration of the country. He praised the Tinubu administration for giving equal opportunities to all, regardless of ethnic, religious, or regional backgrounds, a move he said would strengthen national integration.

"President Tinubu has lived up to the expectations of Nigerians by ensuring that every geo-political zone is represented in his government, in line with the Federal Character Principle. This inclusive approach will bridge divides, promote mutual understanding, and enhance the spirit of collective progress across the country," he added.

The former Abia Speaker further urged political leaders at all levels to emulate the President’s example of inclusivity in governance. He called on public officeholders to prioritize national interest and avoid practices that may deepen regional or ethnic tensions.

Since his inauguration in May 2023, President Bola Tinubu’s government has been characterized by a deliberate effort to accommodate the country's rich diversity in terms of political appointments. From ministerial portfolios to key advisory roles, the President’s choices have reflected a broad spectrum of Nigerian society, which has earned him praise from different quarters, including political, business, and civil society leaders.

Engr. Chinedum Orji’s endorsement of Tinubu's governance style adds to the growing chorus of voices from across the country who acknowledge the administration’s strides in inclusive leadership. Many have lauded the President for his political acumen and his efforts to unite the country at a time when national cohesion is paramount.

In concluding his statement, Orji expressed optimism that President Tinubu’s administration would continue on this path, noting that an inclusive government is critical to addressing Nigeria’s challenges and laying a solid foundation for sustainable development.
