Tourism is a Catalyst For Sustainable Development and Progress, Hon Emeka Obioma Says on World Tourism Day

As the world celebrates World Tourism Day, Hon Emeka Jacob Obioma, Chief Whip and Umuahia South Rep in the Abia State House of Assembly, has emphasized the critical role tourism plays in driving sustainable development.

In his keynote address on World Tourism Day, Hon Emeka Obioma stressed that tourism can be a powerful tool for economic growth, cultural preservation, and environmental conservation.

"Tourism has the potential to transform our communities," Obioma said. "By harnessing this potential, we can create jobs, stimulate local economies, and promote cultural understanding."

The Lawmaker highlighted Abia State's rich cultural heritage and natural attractions, citing the National War Museum, the Long Juju Shrine, and the Azumini Blue River.

He noted, "Our state is blessed with an abundance of tourist attractions.We must invest in infrastructure, promote our cultural festivals, and preserve our natural resources to attract tourists."

"The benefits of tourism are numerous," Obioma explained. "It can create employment opportunities, generate revenue, and promote cultural exchange."

The Umuahia South Rep emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism practices.
"We must ensure that tourism development is environmentally friendly and socially responsible," he stressed. 
"This means involving local communities in decision-making, preserving cultural heritage, and protecting natural resources."

World Tourism Day, celebrated annually on September 27, highlights the importance of tourism in promoting cultural understanding, economic growth, and sustainable development.

"Tourism will bring our state needed revenue and exposure. This will ensure that tourism benefits everyone, not just a select few," Obioma concluded.
