World Tourism Day: His Imperial Majesty, Dr. Mishak Nnanta Advocates for Peace to Promote Tourism

September 27, 2024 -
The United Nations has designated 2024 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, highlighting the sector's potential to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Igbo World Union President-General, His Imperial Majesty, Amb. Sir Dr. Mishak Nnanta (KJW, Ksm, JP), Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum has therefore emphasized the importance of peace in promoting tourism.

Speaking to newsmen earlier, Sir Nnanta stated that peace is essential for creating an enabling environment that fosters tourism growth and development.

In his words, "Peace is the foundation upon which tourism Thrives. Without peace, tourism cannot flourish. So, we must prioritize peaceful coexistence among nations and peoples to promote cultural exchange and understanding."

The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) echoes this sentiment, highlighting the close ties between tourism and culture.
In fact, around 40% of all tourists cite culture as their main motivation for traveling. This underscores the need for peaceful coexistence among nations and peoples to promote cultural exchange and understanding.

"Investing in peace is investing in tourism," Nnanta stressed. "We must work together to create a peaceful and secure environment that attracts tourists and promotes economic growth."

Nigeria, with its rich cultural heritage and diverse tourist attractions, stands to benefit greatly from a peaceful and thriving tourism industry. Nigeria's tourism potential is definitely immense.

"Tourism has the power to transform our economy and promote cultural understanding. But we must prioritize peace and security to unlock this potential," Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum noted.

The Igbo World Union, under Amb. Mishak Nnanta's leadership, has been actively promoting peace and cultural exchange through various initiatives.

"We are committed to promoting peace and understanding among nations and peoples," he stated. "Through cultural exchange programs, educational initiatives, and economic empowerment, we can create a more peaceful and prosperous world."

As the world celebrates World Tourism Day, The IWU President's call for peace resonates deeply. By promoting peace and understanding, we can unlock the full potential of tourism to drive economic growth, cultural exchange, and global development.

As Nigeria and the world celebrate World Tourism Day, the message is clear: peace is essential for tourism growth and development.
