AFCON 2025 Qialifier: Hon. Emeka Obioma Chides Libya Football Federation, Urges CAF to Take Action

Abia, Nigeria – October 15, 2024
Hon. Emeka Obioma, the Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and representative for Umuahia South, has sharply criticized the Libya Football Federation for their treatment of the Nigerian Super Eagles during their recent visit

The Super Eagles, along with their coach and technical crew, faced significant delays and were stranded for over 11 hours at the Libyan airport without essential services, including food, WiFi, hotel accommodations, and proper logistical support.
This incident occurred as the team arrived for the second leg of the qualification match for the CAF AFCON 2025 tournament.

In what appeared to be a deliberate attempt to frustrate the Nigerian team ahead of their crucial match, the lack of basic amenities impacted their preparations and morale.

Speaking out against the incident, Hon. Emeka Obioma condemned the actions of the Libya Football Federation and called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to take immediate action.

"This is a clear case of disregard and disdain for a visiting team, and CAF must sanction Libya for this unacceptable behavior," Obioma said. "CAF must make a swift decision to serve as a deterrent to any African country that behaves in such an irresponsible manner."

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly lodged a formal complaint with CAF, and stakeholders across the African football community are now watching closely for the governing body’s response.

As the Super Eagles prepare to move forward, Hon. Obioma’s call for accountability has sparked discussions about the need for stronger protections and fair treatment for all teams across the continent in international competitions.
