Umuahia South Rep, Emeka Obioma Calls for National Unity and Economic Reform

October 3, 2024 -
In a Statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday, Hon. Emeka Jacob Obioma, the Chief Whip and Umuahia South Rep in Abia State House of Assembly, called for renewed efforts towards national unity and comprehensive economic reform.
The legislator stressed the need for cooperation across party lines to foster development and improve the living standards of Nigerians.

Hon Emeka Obioma highlighted the pressing challenges currently facing the country, from rising inflation to widespread insecurity, stating that these issues could only be effectively addressed if Nigerians stood together.
Our country is at a crossroads,” Obioma said. “It is time for all Nigerians to unite and put aside political, ethnic, and religious differences to build a prosperous and secure future for the next generation.”

The Umuahia South Rep also urged the federal government to implement robust economic reforms aimed at diversifying the economy, improving infrastructure, and creating job opportunities, especially for the youth.
Obioma emphasized that Nigeria’s dependence on oil revenue was no longer sustainable and called for significant investments in agriculture, technology, and manufacturing to drive long-term growth.

We cannot continue to rely on oil as our primary source of income,” he said.
It is imperative that we explore other avenues, such as agriculture and technology, to create a more resilient economy. This will not only provide jobs but also reduce our vulnerability to external shocks.”

The ABHA Chief Whip further called on his fellow lawmakers to support policies that would encourage private sector participation in the economy, reduce bureaucratic red tape, and enhance transparency in governance.

Obioma’s push for economic reform aligns with the desires of many Nigerians, especially the youth, who have been vocal about the need for greater job opportunities and improved governance.

The lawmaker concluded by calling for inclusive dialogue and engagement between the government and various stakeholders to ensure that reform efforts benefit all Nigerians.
"This is not just about economic policies; it's about ensuring that every Nigerian, regardless of background, has a stake in the success of our nation," Obioma stated.

As Nigeria faces mounting economic and security challenges, many hope that Obioma's call for national unity and reform will galvanize leaders and citizens alike to work together toward a brighter future.
