Umuahia, Abia State — June 4, 2025
The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has paid glowing tribute to the late Madam Ukeagu (Mama Connak), mother of Dr. Kenneth Ukeagu, the National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) representing the Southeast.
In a heartfelt condolence message released to the press on Wednesday, Hon. Aguocha described the death of Madam Ukeagu as a painful and deeply personal loss, not only to the Ukeagu family but also to the entire Umuahia community, where she was widely respected.
“The passing of Madam Ukeagu is a solemn reminder of the irreplaceable value of a mother’s love, wisdom, and prayers,” Hon. Aguocha said.
“Her life was a testimony of strength, humility, and godliness, values that are clearly reflected in the character of her son, Dr. Kenneth Ukeagu.”
The federal lawmaker expressed deep admiration for the life and legacy of the late matriarch, noting that raising a son who has served Nigeria with such honor and integrity is a reflection of her discipline, guidance, and faith.
“Dr. Kenneth Ukeagu’s commitment to public service and democratic ideals is no accident,” Aguocha noted.
“It speaks volumes about the foundation he received at home, a foundation built by a mother whose values shaped a man of character and substance.”
Aguocha also emphasized the importance of honoring the lives of women who, though often unseen on the national stage, contribute immensely to nation-building through the children they raise.
“Behind every selfless leader and patriot is often a mother who labored in prayer and perseverance. Madam Ukeagu was one of such women, and we owe her memory deep respect,” he added.
Offering his sympathies to Dr. Ukeagu and the entire family, Hon. Aguocha urged them to take solace in the legacy their matriarch left behind and in the outpouring of love and support from friends, colleagues, and the larger community.
“My prayers are with Dr. Ukeagu and his family during this difficult period. I pray the Almighty grants them peace, strength, and comfort,” Aguocha said.
The funeral for the late Madam Ukeagu is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 7, 2025, in her hometown of Afugiri, Umuahia North Local Government Area. The event is expected to draw dignitaries, government officials, INEC representatives, and community leaders who will gather to pay their final respects.
“As we prepare to bid farewell to a remarkable woman, we do so not in sorrow alone, but in gratitude for a life well lived and for the values she passed on,” he concluded.
