The President-General of the Igbo World Union (IWU), his Imperial Majesty, Amb Sir Dr. Mishak Nnanta, was recently hosted by Igbo title holders in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, in a historic visit that emphasized unity and cultural diplomacy.
Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum, as he is popularly called, was welcomed with great honor and respect by the Igbo communities in the two Central African nations.
The visit began with a warm reception by the Igbo title holders, where discussions on strengthening ties between the Igbo diaspora and the local communities were held.
The President-General, known for his advocacy of Igbo heritage and global unity, commended the Igbo people in both countries for their continued success and resilience in foreign lands. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the rich cultural traditions of the Igbo people, while fostering development in the diaspora.
Following the ceremonial welcome, His Imperial Majesty paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Malabo, the capital city of Equatorial Guinea.
The meeting was an opportunity to explore potential areas of collaboration between the Igbo community and the local government, particularly in the areas of trade, culture, and education.
Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum expressed his desire to see a strengthening of relationships between the Nigerian and Equatorial Guinean governments, as well as to enhance the visibility and contributions of the Igbo community in the region.
The visit also included a diplomatic engagement with the Nigerian Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea, where discussions centered on the welfare of Nigerian citizens, especially the Igbo people, in the country.
The Ambassador expressed appreciation for the Igbo World Union’s efforts in fostering unity and progress among Nigerians abroad.
As a show of goodwill, the Ambassador accompanied His Imperial Majesty to the airport, seeing him off as he prepared for his return journey.
The event highlighted the growing influence of the Igbo diaspora in Central Africa, as well as the Igbo World Union's role in fostering international cooperation and promoting Igbo culture globally.
The visit to Equatorial Guinea and Gabon is expected to further solidify ties between the Igbo people in the region and their homeland, reinforcing the importance of the Igbo World Union in bridging cultural and diplomatic gaps.
