The Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly (ABHA), and Umuahia South Rep, Hon Emeka Jacob Obioma, has extended his congratulations to Engr. Chinedu Enwereuzo of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) following his resounding victory in the Umuahia South Local Government Area chairmanship election.
Obioma also commended Governor Alex Otti and the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) for what he described as a “smooth" conduct of the local government council elections.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday, the Lawmaker praised Enwereuzo's dedication to public service and expressed confidence in his ability to serve Umuahia South effectively.
The ZLP candidate won the election with a commanding 20,973 votes out of a total 36,027 votes cast, defeating competitors from major political parties.
According to the official results, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) secured 4,783 votes, the Labour Party (LP) garnered 3,258 votes, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) obtained 3,040 votes, and the Young Progressives Party (YPP) received 3,973 votes.
Enwereuzo's substantial lead demonstrates strong community support and a shift in voter alignment within the area.
Chief Whip Obioma emphasized that the successful conduct of the elections is a testament to the efforts of ABSIEC in ensuring transparency, fairness, and order. He noted that such elections strengthen democracy at the grassroots level and empower communities by giving them a voice in local governance.
“This victory not only represents the trust and confidence the people of Umuahia South have placed in Hon. Enwereuzo but also showcases ABSIEC’s dedication to upholding democratic principles,” Obioma remarked.
He further urged all newly elected officials to prioritize service and accountability to their constituents.
Hon. Enwereuzo is expected to focus on improving local infrastructure, promoting youth development, and ensuring responsive governance.
