The Representative for Umuahia South Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Emeka Obioma, has called on Nigerian youths to prioritize skill acquisition as a strategic pathway to economic empowerment and national development.
In his statement, Hon. Obioma emphasized the need for young people to embrace skill-based education and training to thrive in Nigeria’s current economic climate.
Hon. Obioma stressed that the year 2025 presents a unique opportunity for Nigerian youths to redefine their futures by acquiring practical skills that align with the demands of the global economy.
“Nigeria is at a critical juncture where traditional pathways to success, such as white-collar jobs, are no longer guaranteed. The economic challenges we face call for innovative thinking and self-sufficiency," Obioma remarked.
He urged youths to take advantage of government and private sector initiatives aimed at fostering skill acquisition in areas like technology, agriculture, digital marketing, and renewable energy.
“The days of relying solely on academic degrees for employment are behind us.
The world is evolving, and the most valuable asset you can have is a skill that solves problems,” he added.
Hon. Obioma highlighted the transformative potential of the digital economy, urging youths to explore opportunities in software development, artificial intelligence, e-commerce, and other tech-driven fields.
"Nigeria has one of the largest youth populations in Africa, and this is our strength.
By acquiring digital skills, we can position ourselves as global players in the tech industry,” he said.
Obioma declared 2025 as a "year of skill empowerment" for Nigerian youths, urging them to take charge of their destinies by committing to personal and professional development.
“I challenge every young person today to acquire at least one new skill in 2025.
Whether it’s learning how to code, mastering a trade, or understanding financial literacy, the goal is to make yourself indispensable in the marketplace,” he stated.
