Ghana Set to Eliminate Visa Requirements for All African Nationals

January 4, 2025 -

Ghana is poised to become a visa-free destination for all African nationals starting early 2025.

The policy, approved by President Nana Akufo-Addo in December, fulfills a commitment he made during the Africa Prosperity Dialogues. According to the president, the initiative seeks to promote “stronger ties across Africa” by easing travel barriers.

This landmark move is expected to stimulate tourism, trade, and travel within the West African nation, addressing long-standing concerns that visa restrictions have impeded economic and social interactions across the continent.

Previously, Ghana offered visa-free entry to citizens of 26 African countries and visas on arrival to travelers from 25 others, with only two African nations requiring pre-arrival visas.

By implementing this policy, Ghana joins Rwanda, Seychelles, Gambia, and Benin as one of five African countries offering visa-free access to all African passport holders, advancing efforts to improve regional integration and mobility across the continent.
