Abia State, Nigeria –
Hon. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, member of the Abia State House representing Umuahia North Constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, has strongly condemned an online newspaper publication linking Dr Uche Ogah to the recent defection of Hon. Lucky Nweke Johnson from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party (LP), asking the media to always report responsibly.
In his statement, Akaliro dismissed the claims as baseless and described Dr. Ogah as "one of the most consistent APC members in Abia State."
He emphasized that Ogah has always remained steadfast in his political ideology and has never been known for interfering in the decisions of other politicians.
"Dr. Uche Ogah is a man of integrity and principle.
He has never engaged in the kind of political maneuvering that is being alleged.
Anyone who knows his track record can attest to his unwavering commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his vision for a better Abia State," Akaliro stated.
He went further to caution against the spread of misinformation, urging media outlets to uphold journalistic integrity by verifying their reports before publication.
“False narratives do not serve the interest of the public and only create unnecessary distractions,” Akaliro said.
“It is unfortunate that some media platforms are being used to peddle misleading stories that only fuel unnecessary political tensions.”
Addressing the political landscape in Abia, the lawmaker reiterated the importance of focusing on governance rather than engaging in baseless accusations.
"Our people are more interested in development, good governance, and policies that will improve their lives.
We should not allow political mischief-makers to divert attention from the real issues that affect the common man," he added.
Akaliro also called on political stakeholders to be more responsible in their engagements, stressing that unity and sincerity should guide their actions.
"Politics should be about service, not unnecessary mudslinging. We must all work towards a common goal of improving our state rather than fabricating distractions that benefit no one," he said.
His statement comes in the wake of a press release by Dr. Ogah’s media team, which strongly refuted the allegations, describing them as “entirely false.” They accused Eagle-News.com of spreading misinformation and urged the public to disregard the report.
