Hon. Emeka Obioma Urges Stronger State, Local Govts Synergy to Drive Grassroots' Development

Umuahia, March 13, 2025 –

The Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and Umuahia South Rep, Hon. Emeka Jacob Obioma (Tommy), has called for increased collaboration among all tiers of government to ensure that development reaches the grassroots.

Speaking to journalists in Umuahia, Hon. Obioma praised the leadership of the governor, Dr. Alex Otti, stating that his administration has significantly improved the state's infrastructure.
He noted that the governor has not only made promises but has also taken concrete steps to implement developmental projects across the state.

"For the first time since Abia's creation, we are witnessing a government that is genuinely focused on infrastructural development. The positive changes are evident in all parts of the state," he said.

However, Hon. Obioma emphasized that the state govt’s efforts will only yield lasting results if local govt authorities actively participate in the process.
He pointed out that every state project is situated in a local government, making grassroots communities the primary beneficiaries.

"As the first point of contact for the people, the LG must take ownership of these projects, ensuring their maintenance and security," he urged.

The lawmaker also commended the council of mayors for their dedication to replicating the governor’s development initiatives in their respective local government areas.

Hon. Obioma’s remarks underscore the importance of unity among all tiers of government in driving sustainable development.
He reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for policies that empower local governments to actively support and maintain state-led projects.

As Abia continues on its path of transformation under Governor Otti’s leadership, the Umuahia South Rep, urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure that the benefits of governance reach every community, leaving no one behind.
