In a bold stride towards human capital development, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, the Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, has awarded full scholarships to ten deserving students for academic study at the Ofeme College of Education.
The beneficiaries, drawn from various wards across the constituency, were selected based on merit and their expressed interest in pursuing teacher education and other academic programs at the institution. This scholarship initiative is a key part of Hon. Akaliro’s broader educational empowerment agenda aimed at nurturing the next generation of educators and leaders.
Speaking at the formal presentation of the scholarships, Hon. Akaliro reiterated his commitment to the growth of educational opportunities in Umuahia North.
“Education remains the most sustainable way to change lives and transform communities. With these scholarships, we are investing not only in individuals but in the future of our society,” he stated.
Among the beneficiaries is Asagwara Keneth from Uwudiawa Ohuhu, who thanked the lawmaker for what he described as a “life-changing opportunity.”
“I never imagined I would be able to go to college this year. Hon. Akaliro has made my dream come true by enrolling me at the Ofeme College of Education to study my desired course,” Keneth shared.
Another recipient, Nweze Ugochi Miracle from Ofeme, also expressed heartfelt appreciation, describing the scholarship as a beacon of hope for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“I am grateful to Hon. Akaliro for believing in us and giving us this chance to build a future. This gesture has restored my faith in leadership that listens and acts,” she remarked.
The scholarship covers tuition and other essential academic fees, ensuring that the students can focus fully on their studies without the burden of financial constraints. Hon. Akaliro assured that this was only the beginning, promising to expand the program in the coming years.
“I will continue to advocate for policies and projects that empower our youth through skill acquisition, formal education, and vocational training. We cannot afford to ignore the potential in our young people,” the lawmaker added.
