Umuahia, Abia State –
In a bold reaffirmation of his dedication to educational empowerment, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, the Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, has announced plans to expand the number of beneficiaries in his education support scheme. The lawmaker made this commitment while addressing newsmen following the recent presentation of full scholarships to ten constituents to study at the Ofeme College of Education.
The initiative, which covers tuition and essential academic expenses, has already impacted lives across various wards in Umuahia North. Now, Hon. Akaliro says he is determined to do more in the next phase.
“I will ensure more youths benefit from our education support scheme in the next phase,” Akaliro declared.
“This is not just a one-time gesture. It is a long-term vision to strengthen human capital and give our young people a real chance to succeed.”
Beneficiaries and their families have since expressed heartfelt gratitude for the life-changing support. Some of the students had struggled with the financial means to pursue tertiary education before receiving the scholarship.
“What we are doing is planting seeds that will yield a harvest of excellence tomorrow. Our youths are full of potential, and all they need is opportunity. I am committed to being a bridge to that opportunity,” Hon. Akaliro said.
The lawmaker also urged parents and guardians to continue encouraging education at home and in the community.
“Government alone cannot do everything. But through partnership with families and communities, we can create an environment where education is valued and accessible to all,” he said.
Community leaders have also commended the lawmaker’s proactive approach to youth development. They described the scholarship initiative as a model of responsive leadership and a beacon of hope in difficult times.
Looking ahead, Hon. Akaliro promised to broaden the reach of the program to include vocational training and other forms of academic support. “This is only the beginning. We are building momentum, and by the grace of God, we will do more,” he concluded.
