Abuja, Nigeria – June 10, 2025
In a renewed expression of unwavering belief in the rule of law and the eventual triumph of justice, Hon. Obi Aguocha, the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has stirred fresh hope across the Southeast with his heartfelt statement on the ongoing detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, Hon. Aguocha affirmed that though the legal journey may seem prolonged and fraught with setbacks, it is not without divine purpose.
“It may tarry, but surely will end in praise,” Aguocha declared. “We are people of faith, and I continue to believe that truth, justice, and the fundamental rights of every citizen, including Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will eventually prevail.”
The lawmaker, who has consistently advocated for Kanu’s release, reiterated his call for adherence to constitutional principles, due process, and human dignity.
His impassioned stance has won him the admiration of both constituents and human rights advocates, many of whom see him as a rare voice of moral courage in the political landscape.
“This is not just about one man,” Aguocha continued. “This is about the soul of our democracy. When we fight for justice for one, we uphold justice for all. I am convinced that Nigeria can only be stronger when we are fair, when we are just, and when no part of this nation feels marginalized.”
His comments come at a time when tensions have slightly eased but uncertainty still looms over the fate of Nnamdi Kanu, whose case has dragged on since his controversial re-arrest and extradition in 2021. Despite repeated legal interventions and public calls for a political solution, the matter remains unresolved.
Hon. Aguocha, who has made peace-building and national reconciliation central themes of his legislative work, urged the federal government to embrace dialogue and justice as tools for healing historical grievances.
“Justice delayed is not always justice denied, but we must not make delay a permanent excuse for inaction,” he said.
“As a representative of the people, I will continue to raise my voice, both on the floor of the National Assembly and in every space available, until this matter is resolved honorably.”
Local activist and youth leader, Ifeanyi Onuoha, praised the lawmaker’s courage; “Hon. Aguocha is not afraid to say the truth, even when it is unpopular. His words give us hope that all is not lost in the fight for justice.”
As the nation watches and waits, Aguocha’s message resounds beyond political lines, as a call to conscience, a plea for unity, and a reminder that, ultimately, justice has a divine timetable.
“We must keep the faith,” Aguocha concluded. “For in the end, justice will speak, and it will speak loudly, not with bitterness, but with the sound of praise.”
