The chairman of Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Glory Ekah has called on the people to support the Coordinator, office of the First Lady, Mrs Helen Eno in the fight against Gender Based Violence in the state.
Ekah made the call while speaking at Upenekang during a sensitisation programme to create awareness of the dangers of GBV, tagged, “Standing Together Against Gender-Based Violence,” on Saturday.
She said such violence not only affects individuals but also families, educational institutions, places of worship and society at large.
Ekah, therefore, charged traditional rulers, religious leaders, educational institutions, parents, and security agencies to unite to fight GBV as their roles shape behaviours and attitudes in communities.
Ekah said, “Your support is necessary if we must see lasting changes as the collective approach is necessary to tackle the menace. I encourage our youths to embrace a life of discipline and self-control. Respect and abstinence should be seen as a mark of strength.
“Let me remind married individuals that true love should be characterised by upliftment, protection, and honour, rather than turning homes to the battlefront and exercising military control which leads to humiliation and sometimes injury.
“If you humiliate your partner, it is not love, there should be healthier relationships built on mutual respect.”
