Hon. Akym Onyekwere Uche has opened up on the driving force behind his sustained investment in youth development, stating that his passion for youth empowerment is rooted in a vision to build a more prosperous, stable, and innovative future for the youth.

Speaking to newsmen on Friday, Hon. Akym emphasized that the development of any society is directly tied to how it treats its youth population.
He noted that empowering young people through education, skills acquisition, and leadership exposure is not only a duty but a strategy for sustainable progress.

I invest in youth development because I believe the strength of any community lies in its young people,” Hon. Akym said.
Our youth are not the leaders of tomorrow; they are the change-makers of today. If we fail to equip them, we are preparing for a future of stagnation and regret.

Akym, who has championed several youth-based initiatives over the years; including scholarship schemes, vocational training programmes, mentorship networks, and startup support, argued that no meaningful development can occur without deliberate focus on youth capacity-building.

Empowering the youth is not a luxury; it is a necessity. You cannot talk about economic transformation, innovation, or security without addressing the future of our young people,” he noted.
That is why I am committed to supporting youth who are ready to learn, create, and lead.”

Akym Onyekwere also lamented the rising rate of unemployment and social frustration among Nigerian youth, particularly in rural communities.
He called on government at all levels, corporate bodies, and civil society organizations to join hands in providing practical and scalable solutions that open doors for young Nigerians.

When we empower our youth, we close the doors to crime, hopelessness, and despair. We must make it clear that no dream is too big and no community too remote for opportunity to thrive,” he stated.

Many youth from Abia North have shared personal testimonies of how Hon. Akym’s programs had helped them access training, start small businesses, and pursue further education.

One beneficiary, Uchechi Nnaji, a student from Isiukwuato, praised Hon. Akym for “investing in people, not politics.” She added, “We feel seen and heard. It’s no longer about promises, we are witnessing real change.

Hon. Akym also reiterated that his focus remains on deepening impact and scaling existing projects, not political ambition.

For me, this is not about campaigns or elections, it’s about responsibility. It’s about building a future where every child has the tools to succeed regardless of background,” he said.

He also encouraged the youth to take charge of their destinies by acquiring skills, seeking mentorship, and becoming active citizens.

Don’t wait for the government to do everything. Take the first step. Build yourself. Improve your mind. Find your voice. I promise to continue creating platforms where those dreams can grow,” he concluded.

Hon. Akym Onyekwere’s approach to youth empowerment goes beyond slogans, it is a sustained, people-first mission to build the leaders of today.
