The Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has said that the legacies of the late former president, General (Retd) Muhammadu Buhari, will not be forgotten.
Bago, who sent his condolence message to the family of Buhari through his Chief Press Secretary Bologi Ibrahim on Sunday, affirmed that the former military head of state has etched his name in the annals of Nigeria’s history.
Bago further noted that Buhari contributed to the project Nigeria, despite the challenges, and this, he stressed, would not be forgotten in a hurry.
“Former President Buhari has been a very disciplined personality and has lived a life of service to humanity and dedication to nation-building.
The deceased is an icon of integrity and patriotism from when he was a military officer to when he became the Head of State in 1983 and was democratically elected as President in 2015 and 2019.
“He had remained steadfast in fighting corruption and making Nigeria better throughout his administration, especially through the numerous initiatives introduced by his government, such as the expansion of rail lines, construction, and rehabilitation of major roads, establishment of the Social Investment Programmes (SIP), and agricultural and security reforms, among others, amidst daunting challenges,” Bago stated.
The governor prayed that Allah would forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant him Aljanna Firdausi.
May his body live with the Lord, thank you,” Tanko said.
The Niger State spokesperson of the APC Musa Sarkinkajii expressed his party’s condolences over the passing of the former president.
“May his soul rest in peace. He was a good man and a man of peace. He contributed his quota to the development of the country,” he said.
Similarly, the governors of Nasarawa and Adamawa states Abdullahi Sule and Ahmadu Fintiri have extended their heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Nigeria, as well as the bereaved family of the late President Muhammadu.
In a statement signed by the Sule and made available in Lafia, the state capital on Sunday, the governor described Buhari as a great man and an epitome of honesty.
He noted that the late ex-president was not just a leader but also a symbol of honesty, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the Nigerian project.
Sule added that throughout Buhari’s lifetime, he stood as a beacon of integrity and patriotism, never wavering in his resolve to serve the country with selflessness, honesty, and courage.
The statement read in parts, “It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss, that I receive the sad news of the passing of His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, and elder statesman and former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The late President Buhari was not just a leader; he was a symbol of honesty, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the Nigerian project.
“Throughout his life, he stood as a beacon of integrity and patriotism; never wavering in his resolve to serve the country with selflessness, honesty, and courage.
“His leadership, marked by simplicity and a deep sense of duty, which endeared him to millions both at home and abroad.
“His connection with Nasarawa State was especially heartfelt – he was a friend to the people, a father figure to so many of us, and a guiding light to leaders across generations.
“As we in Nasarawa State mourn the passing of this rare patriot, we cherish that he lived with purpose, honour, and deep conviction. We pray earnestly that Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.”
