Taiwan hails Tinubu on Saint Lucia’s visit

President Bola Tinubu

The Government of Taiwan has commended President Bola Tinubu for his diplomatic visit to Saint Lucia and the conferment of Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia on him.

Taiwan described the honour as a remarkable symbol of Nigeria’s growing influence in the global diplomatic space.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Representative and Head of Mission of Taiwan in Nigeria, Mr Andy Liu, who praised Tinubu’s efforts on strengthening relationship between Africa and the Caribbean during his visit to the island nation.

Liu said the visit and the award reflected not only Tinubu’s diplomatic reach but also Nigeria’s rising international status under his leadership.

He noted that the President’s outreach mirrored Taiwan’s long-standing ties with Saint Lucia and other Caribbean nations such as St Kitts and Nevis, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Haiti.

“We, the people and Government of Taiwan, wholeheartedly congratulate President Tinubu for his vision and concrete actions in extending Nigeria’s connections with Caribbean island states,” he said.

The Taiwanese envoy expressed optimism that Nigeria’s engagement with Saint Lucia would create further opportunities for joint humanitarian and economic collaboration.

Liu revealed that Taiwan had developed several facilities in partnership with Saint Lucian authorities, which may have been part of President Tinubu’s tour during his state visit.

He added that Taiwan was ready and eager to share its technological expertise and development strategies with Nigeria to foster mutual growth.

Liu called on the Nigerian government to consider building substantial and mutually beneficial relations with Taiwan, similar to what currently exists between Taiwan and Saint Lucia.

He stated, “Taiwan stands ready to partner with Nigeria across various sectors, and we hope President Tinubu and his administration will see Taiwan as a healthy and advanced partner in promoting prosperity and global cooperation.”
