The African Democratic Congress has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for officially recognising Senator David Mark as its National Chairman, declaring the party stable and ready for renewed political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC’s updated leadership list, published on its official website on Wednesday, also confirmed other key appointments: former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as National Secretary; Dr. Ibrahim Mani as National Treasurer; Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary; and Prof. Oserheimen Aigberaodion Osunbor as National Legal Adviser.
The restructuring followed the voluntary resignation of former Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, and other principal officers on July 2, 2025.
At the time, Nwosu named Mark and Aregbesola as interim leaders in a bid to reposition the party. However, delays in documentation initially stalled INEC’s formal recognition.
Reacting to the development, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bola Abdullahi, praised the commission, describing its decision as a reaffirmation of democratic values.
I would say it’s largely administrative rather than political. We believe it was about documentation. If INEC wanted to play games, they could have used the opportunity, but instead they worked with us to ensure the right thing was done. For that, we commend them for standing on the right side of history and upholding democracy,” Abdullahi told our correspondent.
He noted that the recognition ended the uncertainty that had slowed the party’s activities nationwide.
“So we are happy. We can now move forward. With this, our members and even prospective members across the country can now be more confident that the party is stabilising. You will now see a lot more activities coming from across the states,” he said.
Abdullahi added that the party is set to resume full political operations.
“You will now see people joining the party, membership registration resuming, and membership cards being issued. All of the activities that had been put on hold because of the uncertainty will now commence. The party is stable, and in the coming weeks you will see all of that happening,” he said.
