Constituents Welcome Akaliro’s Defection to Labour Party with Optimism

Reactions have continued to trail the announcement of Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro’s defection to the Labour Party, with many constituents and political observers hailing the move as a turning point for Umuahia North. 
His move has been greeted with optimism and excitement by constituents who see the development as a fresh opportunity for people-centered leadership. Community leaders, youth groups, and market associations described the development as a source of renewed hope for credible and people-focused representation.

Speaking to our reporter, A youth leader from Afara said the defection was a reflection of the lawmaker’s commitment to stand with the people. 
Hon. Akaliro has always been a voice for equity and justice. By joining the Labour Party, he has reaffirmed his loyalty to the grassroots and aligned with a platform that prioritizes accountability and fairness,” he stated.
 
Market women in Umuahia North also expressed joy over the move, noting that Akaliro’s decision has restored confidence that their voices will be better represented. 
We are happy that our representative has joined Labour Party. It is a party that connects with ordinary people like us, and we believe he will continue to work for our welfare,” a market woman from Isingwu added.
 
Hon. Akaliro, while addressing journalists after making the announcement, explained that his defection was not a personal ambition but a response to the yearnings of his people. According to him, the Labour Party reflects the values he has consistently upheld since his election. 
“I joined the Labour Party because it is the only political platform that truly represents the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians. My commitment is to Umuahia North, and I will continue to serve with fairness, inclusiveness, and dedication,” he said.
 
Political analysts in Abia State described the move as a significant boost for the Labour Party, which has been steadily gaining popularity across the South-East. They argue that Akaliro’s entry into the party could tilt the balance of power in Umuahia North and further strengthen the Labour Party’s grassroots appeal.
 
Constituents believe that the lawmaker’s defection will usher in new opportunities in areas such as youth empowerment, infrastructural development, and people-driven legislation. 
A community elder remarked, “This is more than a political realignment; it is a message of hope. We believe Hon. Akaliro will use this new platform to attract development and ensure justice for his constituency.”
