Umuahia, Abia State |September 20, 2025 —
The Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Emeka Obioma, has emphasized that equity remains the bedrock of peace, unity, and sustainable development in Abia State and Nigeria at large.
Addressing newmen in Umuahia on Friday, Hon. Obioma noted that the challenges facing society today stem largely from neglecting the principles of fairness and justice in leadership and governance.
“Equity brings unity, and unity brings progress. When people feel carried along, there will be peace and a collective drive towards development. But when some are sidelined, division and stagnation become inevitable,” he stated.
The lawmaker further stressed that leadership without equity creates gaps that weaken the bond between government and the governed. He explained that his legislative role is anchored on ensuring that policies and decisions in the House reflect the interests of all citizens, regardless of background or political affiliation.
“My duty as a representative of the people is to speak for everyone, not just a few. I am committed to ensuring that the principles of fairness guide my actions because true governance must be inclusive,” Obioma added.
He reaffirmed his commitment to good governance, noting that accountability, transparency, and justice are values that will continue to guide his service.
“Good governance is not about lofty promises but about practical actions that make people’s lives better. I remain steadfast in this journey of service, and I assure my people that every decision I take will have their best interest at heart,” he said.
Hon. Obioma also called on his colleagues in the Abia State House of Assembly, as well as leaders across Nigeria, to uphold equity in governance as a means of fostering peace and prosperity.
“No community should be left behind, and no group should feel neglected. We must make decisions that unite rather than divide us. That is the only way to build a strong and progressive society,” he urged.
Constituens have praised the lawmaker’s accessibility and his clear stance on issues of fairness, describing him as a true servant-leader who prioritizes the collective good above personal gain.
Political analysts believe Obioma’s consistent advocacy for justice and equity sets him apart as a principled lawmaker committed to driving positive change in Abia State’s political landscape.
