Abia State |September 29, 2025 —
The people of Ihenzu in Ahaba Imenyi, Isuikwuato Local Government Area, have expressed deep gratitude to Hon. Onyekwere Akym Uche (OAU), former Abia State governorship candidate, and founder of the OAU Foundation, for commencing the construction of a bungalow for an indigent widow in the community.
The project, which is being executed under the OAU Humanitarian Foundation, is already making waves as residents hailed the gesture as a shining example of compassion and leadership in action. The beneficiary, an aged widow who has lived in deplorable conditions with a leaking thatch roof and swampy surroundings, had her plight exposed through a viral video that moved many to tears.
Touched by her suffering, OAU wasted no time in fulfilling his promise. Within days, he mobilized engineers and artisans to Ihenzu, where construction of a modern bungalow is already underway. Community members noted that the pace of work, raised to a remarkable stage within just one week, reflects the sincerity and commitment of the benefactor.
Speaking, Onyekwere Akym Uche emphasized that his intervention was driven by empathy and a desire to restore dignity to the widow. “Humanity is at the center of true leadership. When we see suffering, we must act. This is not about politics but about compassion. Everyone deserves a decent shelter,” he said.
Residents of Ihenzu could not hold back their appreciation. One community elder described the gesture as a “blessing from God,” noting that it has rekindled hope not only for the widow but for many others who feel forgotten by society. “OAU has shown us that leadership is about action, not empty promises. His kindness will remain in our hearts forever,” he said.
Observers have commended Akym’s approach as a refreshing departure from the norm, where promises are often made but rarely fulfilled. Many said his actions speak louder than words, portraying him as a man committed to using his influence and resources for the benefit of the less privileged.
As construction continues, the widow’s life is set for a remarkable transformation, and the entire Isuikwuato community is celebrating the positive impact of OAU’s humanitarian outreach.
His foundation’s track record of touching lives has once again demonstrated that compassion, when backed by action, can change destinies.
