The Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri has condemned the protest staged during last Saturday’s Odenigbo lecture, which was attended by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
The church called the Imo State government and security agencies to identify and prosecute those behind the protest while dismissing media reports claiming that l-Rufai, was invited to deliver the 2025 Odenigbo lecture.
The church stressed that El-Rufai neither addressed the gathering nor held a press conference at the venue.
In a statement titled “Putting the Facts Straight” and signed by the Archdiocesan Chancellor/Secretary, Rev. Fr. Patrick C. Mbarah, the church decried what it called “misrepresentation of facts and outright falsehood” circulating on social media about El-Rufai’s presence at the event.
