Access Bank Plc has donated a solar-powered borehole to Ipetu-Ijesa community in the Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.
Speaking during the handover of the facility, the Zonal Head, South-West 4, Access Bank, Adeola Oladele, said the project was executed as part of the bank’s commitment to giving back to the communities it serves.
Oladele said, “Today, we are giving back to the community as a bank. At Access Bank, we have a written operations book, and one of our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives is to look at how we can impact our society.
“We have sunk a borehole for the Ipetu-Ijesa community in Osun State. We have a branch in the community and we did this project as a way of giving back to the community.
“Portable water is one thing that most people want and this is what people in the rural areas don’t have access to. This is the major part of the town and what we’ve done is to make water available.
“It is a solar-powered borehole, and at every given time, water will be available for the residents. The project cost millions of naira. The people of Ipetu-Ijesa are happy with this project and we urge them to continue to bank with us.”
In his remarks, the Ajalaye of Ipetu-Ijesa, Oba Adeleke Agunbiade-Oke, represented by the Odo Olofin of Ipetu-Ijesa, Chief Olumide Onawumi, commended the bank for the gesture and assured that the community would put the facility to good use.
He said, “On behalf of my people, I want to thank Access Bank for the opportunity given to us. This is a laudable project and I pray God will continue to lift you up.
“Water is very important in human life, and Access Bank has given us that. You’ve done this for us and we appreciate it. We still want more of this in our community.”
A resident, Abiona Olaide, said the borehole had eased the hardship residents previously faced in accessing water.
He said, “People from this area travel miles to get water, but we are grateful now as our problem has been solved.”
