THE governors of Kano and Taraba states on Wednesday presented their 2026 budget proposals to their respective Houses of Assembly, outlining spending plans heavily focused on infrastructure, education and human capital development.

In Kano, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf presented a N1.36tn Appropriation Bill to lawmakers, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to completing legacy projects and pursuing inclusive development across the state.

The proposed budget allocates 68 per cent, or N934.6bn to capital projects, while recurrent spending takes N433.4bn—one of the highest capital-to-recurrent ratios in the state’s recent history.

Yusuf said the spending plan reflects strategic priorities, with education receiving the largest share at N405.3bn (30 per cent), followed by infrastructure at N346.2bn (25 per cent), and health at N212.2bn (16 per cent).

These allocations demonstrate our unwavering determination to invest heavily in human capital development, safeguard the well-being of our people, and lay the physical foundation for sustainable growth,” he said.

He added that key sectors such as agriculture, security, commerce, water resources, environment, tourism, women and youth development, and support for people with special needs also received substantial provisions. Yusuf urged lawmakers to pass the bill promptly to ensure effective implementation.

In Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas presented a proposed N650bn budget for 2026 to the state House of Assembly during plenary in Jalingo.
