Umuahia, Abia State |November 5, 2025 —

As the year gradually draws to a close, the people of Umuahia North are witnessing a wave of transformation driven by the proactive leadership of Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, the Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly.

During an interaction with journalists on Monday, November 3, 2025, Hon. Akaliro reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Ohuhu land remains a key beneficiary of the current administration’s developmental agenda. He noted that several major projects initiated under his representation are either completed or nearing completion, signaling a new phase of progress for the constituency.

Among the flagship projects highlighted by the lawmaker is the High Court Complex at Nkwoegwu, which is now at its final stage of completion.

According to him, the court project will not only enhance access to justice but also strengthen the institutional presence of the judiciary within the community.

The High Court project at Nkwoegwu is one that I hold dear because it represents justice, order, and institutional growth for our people,” Hon. Akaliro said. “It is almost ready for commissioning, and once completed, it will serve generations of Ohuhu indigenes and beyond.”

He also pointed to the successful revival of the Ofeme–Umuda Market, which had been dormant for years but is now a bustling center of economic activity. The market, fully rehabilitated and equipped with modern lock-up shops, has revitalized grassroots trade and improved livelihoods across the community.

The Ofeme–Umuda Market was once abandoned, but today, it is alive again,” Hon. Akaliro explained.

We rebuilt it to empower our traders, mothers, and young people. It is now a symbol of renewed life and economic growth in Ohuhu.”

In addition, the lawmaker highlighted the ongoing Civil Defence Project, an initiative aimed at opening employment opportunities for qualified indigenes and unemployed youths. He emphasized that development must reflect in both infrastructure and human capital empowerment.

We cannot talk about progress without providing opportunities for our youths,” he noted.

The Civil Defence Project will help more of our young people secure stable employment and contribute meaningfully to the security and growth of our society.”

Addressing the issue of erosion and poor drainage systems that have affected several parts of Ohuhu, Hon. Akaliro assured constituents that their concerns have been taken up with the state government.

He disclosed that plans are underway for road rehabilitation and proper drainage construction to tackle these long-standing infrastructural challenges.

It is my duty to push the needs of my people to the government,” he said firmly. “Ohuhu shall definitely see the light of this present administration. We will not be left behind.”

Community members who have witnessed the ongoing changes commended Hon. Akaliro for his consistent engagement and visible performance. They described his approach to leadership as one anchored on transparency, accountability, and genuine service to the people.
