Why I didn’t challenge Otti’s victory – Kalu

An All Progressives Congress leader in Abia State, Mascot Uzor Kalu, has said he did not challenge the victory of the incumbent governor of the state in the 2023 governorship election because it represented the change the people wanted then.

He spoke on Saturday when he declared his intention to contest for the governorship seat in Abia in 2027.

Kalu had contested alongside Alex Otti under the platform of All Peoples Party (APP) and lost.

Kalu who is now a member of the APC, said, “I was a frontline candidate in the 2023 governorship election and as a democrat, I did not hesitate to congratulate the incumbent governor, Governor Alex Oti, when the Independent National Electoral Commission declared him the winner of the 2023 elections.

Although it reflected mildly the election, but the outcome represented the change the people of Abia State were seeking for. For that reason, I did not challenge the victory in court.

“I have given the administration room to govern without criticism for over two years. I acknowledge that some progress has been made under the administration, but the progress remains far from the lofty campaign promises that were made during the 2023 election period.

Abia and Abians deserves more, especially those in the grassroots, as well as the civil servants, pensioners, traders. We need a government built on transparency, accountability, inclusiveness of progress. A government that serves all and leaves nobody behind.

A government that will open its bank accounts to multiple financial institutions, and trust and stand by the civil servants, give its word to the pensioners, create multiple viable programmes to support and grow our youth, show transparency in the process of award of contracts”.

He assured the state residents and citizens that if he becomes the governor, “we will have independent local government areas and we will publish each local government’s allocation and ensure that each and every local government areas receives all their allocated funds intact.”

He said he wants to “unify Abians and build a prosperous, all-inclusive state where opportunities are available for everyone, regardless of your political party or affiliation or your social standing”.

He declared that he would “leverage on Mr. President’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope policies to spread the dividend of good governance to the grassroots, empowering and uplifting Abia people through macro and micro economic systems.””

The party state Woman Leader, Ezinne Uduma urged members to continue to canvas for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and as well, bring in more people into the party to actualize the lofty dreams of the party for the state.
