The Abia State Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu has urged Igbo lawyers to uphold justice, integrity, and professionalism to protect the collective dignity of Ndi Igbo in all spheres of society.

Emetu made the call while representing Governor Alex Otti at the 2025 Annual Dinner and Award Night of Otu Oka Iwu, an association of legal practitioners of Igbo extraction, held in Lagos.

The event drew senior members of the legal profession, government officials, and leaders of major Igbo socio-cultural organisations.

“As a body of lawyers from Eastern Nigeria, you must ensure that the pride of Ndi Igbo is protected in every sphere,” the Deputy Governor said, stressing that the legal profession occupies a critical position in the pursuit of justice and good governance.

The event also served as a platform for Otu Oka Iwu to reaffirm its commitment to unity, communal advancement, and justice in Nigeria.

Speakers at the gathering highlighted the need to preserve Igbo heritage, strengthen communal bonds, and promote excellence within the legal profession.

In his welcome address, the President of Otu Oka Iwu, Mr Okechukwu Unegbu, described the occasion as both a celebration of excellence and a reaffirmation of the association’s core values.

Tonight, we gather to reaffirm our shared commitment to the values that bind us together as custodians of justice, interpreters of the law, and ambassadors of the Igbo nation,” he said.

Unegbu commended the award recipients for their professional achievements and pledged the association’s continued support for young lawyers and advocates committed to justice.

Chair of the Planning Committee, Mrs Augustina Igbokwe, said the association must be repositioned to serve as a rallying point for Ndi Igbo in Lagos.
