The Member representing Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has urged residents of Abia State to remain vigilant during the festive season and promptly report any suspicious activities to relevant security agencies, assuring the public that comprehensive security measures have been put in place to safeguard lives and property.
Speaking in Umuahia on Monday, Hon. Aguocha said the period of celebration should not be exploited by criminal elements, stressing that collective responsibility and timely information sharing are critical to maintaining peace and security across communities. He disclosed that security agencies in the state have been placed on full alert to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season.
According to him, “The festive season is a time of joy, reunion and thanksgiving, but it is also a period that requires heightened vigilance. I urge our people to be alert and report any suspicious movements, persons or activities within their neighborhoods to the appropriate security agencies without delay.”
Hon. Aguocha emphasized that security is a shared responsibility, noting that the cooperation of residents with law enforcement agencies plays a vital role in preventing crime and ensuring rapid response where threats arise. He added that intelligence from the public often makes the difference in proactive policing and crime prevention.
“The various security agencies have assured us of their readiness,” he said. “They are on full alert across Abia State to protect lives and property. However, their efforts will be more effective when citizens partner with them by providing timely and accurate information.”
The federal lawmaker also called on community leaders, youth groups, market associations and transport unions to be proactive in promoting vigilance within their respective domains, especially in crowded areas such as markets, motor parks, worship centers and event venues where large gatherings are expected during the festivities.
Reassuring his constituents and Abians at large, Hon. Aguocha stated that government and security institutions are committed to maintaining peace throughout the celebration period and beyond.
He warned that criminal acts would not be tolerated and that those who attempt to disrupt public safety would be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law.
“As we celebrate, let us do so responsibly,” he added. “If you see something unusual, say something. Together, we can ensure that this festive season remains peaceful, secure and memorable for all our people.”
Hon. Aguocha concluded by wishing constituents a joyful and safe festive season, urging them to uphold unity, peace and mutual care as they celebrate with family and loved ones.
